AT&T Williams welcomed the BFBS (British Forces Broadcasting Services) into its motorhome this afternoon. Two winners of a listener competition were given a garage tour by Matt Jones, Head of Marketing Services and ex-military, who explained the many parallels between the sport and the army. “We like to think of ourselves as a military operation,” said Matt.

Philips and Randstad announced the winners of their photographic competition this evening. The contest has been running for the past five races and the brief for entrants was to “communicate team spirit” through their lenses. The first prize of 3,000 euros went to Darren Heath for his shot of Jenson Button hugging Ross Brawn; second prize (2,000 euros) to Steven Tee and third prize (1,000 euros) to Andreas Biel. Well done, chaps!

Congratulations to our test driver Nico Hulkenberg, who took his second GP2 pole position in three races this afternoon. He now lies third in the championship standings with 28 points. We look forward to raising a glass following your first win in the series tomorrow, Nico…

Ari Vatanen was spotted in the Nurburgring paddock today. The Finnish former world rally champion has announced his intention to stand for the presidency of the FIA in October and, funnily enough, one of his first appointments was a meeting with Bernie Ecclestone
