As soon as the chequered flag dropped, a mass exodus from Magny Cours occurred. The AT&T Williams team travelled by road to Clermont Ferrand, where it caught a flight to Luton Airport in the UK. Nico and Alex, meanwhile, drove back to Monaco. The French gendarmes must have been rubbing their hands with glee at the prospect of the British media’s return to their autoroutes. ITV-F1’s Ted Kravitz took the wooden spoon en route to Magny Cours when he was stopped doing 168kph (104.40mph) and fined 90 euros. Come on lads, you can try harder than that! Bernie Ecclestone had no such rush from the circuit because he didn’t turn up in France. iWitness's guess is that he was busy in Las Vegas and then figured that he'd see everyone in the paddock at Silverstone next weekend. Ah, how Bernie loves that good ol' country fair in the English countryside. At least Bernie didn't have to take part in the "F1 scrum challenge" over the weekend, an event organised to highlight France's role as the host nation of the Rugby World Cup in September. BMW, Bridgestone and McLaren were knocked out in the heats, leaving a Red Bull Racing versus Toro Rosso final. Even with the help of Mark Webber, whose Old Man used to play the game professionally, Toro Rosso emerged the victors. We wonder what position Bernie would have played…
