Nico's Budapest Blog: Thursday

Knowing that it’s going to be hot in Hungary this weekend, I did some acclimatisation work in Sardinia after the Nurburgring. I sailed a yacht around the island with some friends and had a great time. It wasn’t my first introduction to sailing because I’ve been on a carbon fibre Wally in the past, but this was the first time that I really began to understand the magic of wind power.
The weather was beautiful, so I was able to train in hot temperatures while I was there. That could pay dividends this weekend because the Hungaroring is a very physical track. The g-forces aren’t high, but there are no long straights and you’re always working behind the wheel. There is the same intensity as Monaco, but twice the heat.
I hope the FW31 will be competitive this weekend because it has performed well in all the hot races so far this year. We’re entering the race following a good result in Germany last time out and a similar outcome on Sunday would be a great way to enter the summer break. Bring it on!
