As the timing screens went down at the end of today’s qualifying session, Nico Rosberg was in second position on the grid. Given his heavy fuel load, he was thrilled to be starting from the front row, only to discover later that he had in fact qualified fifth. “The high-tech world of F1, eh?” was all Nico had to say.We had to seek special permission from the FIA to shoot our annual team photo today. Parc Ferme rules dictate that the cars all have to be in the FIA scrutineering garage 3.5 hours after the end of qualifying, which coincided with our team shoot. Luckily, permission was granted by Jo Bauer to deliver one of our cars 15 minutes late.
There was huge relief in the F1 paddock this evening when news filtered through that Felipe Massa had had a successful operation following his horrific accident during qualifying. His doctor from Brazil has now flown in to oversee his recouperation and everyone at AT&T Williams wishes him a swift return to the cockpit.
