iWitness in Budapest: Sunday

With Liam Clogger in possession of an off-games chit (swine flu?), AT&T Williams team manager Tim Newton was left to run the Hungaroring alone last night. Sporting a bright yellow running vest and black running shorts, Tim completed the 4.381km lap in 23 minutes. Not bad for someone aged over 25, eh Tim?
There was an end-of-term feeling in the paddock after today’s race, with some people literally running towards the paddock turnstiles to begin the two-week summer break. Many members of the AT&T Williams squad are staying in England, but not the drivers. Nico is heading to Ibiza and Kazuki is returning to Japan to enjoy some of his mum’s home cooking.
Can chief operations engineer Rod Nelson speak Spanish? Let’s hope so because his girlfriend has asked him to make the opening address at a fiesta in her home city of Malaga next week. “Don’t worry,” says Rod, “it will all be written down, so I can’t go too wrong.” De nada, Rod.
Everyone at AT&T Williams wishes Felipe Massa a swift recovery from the injuries he sustained during qualifying yesterday. Initial reports from the hospital in Budapest are very positive and we hope to see him back in a Ferrari before too long.
