Nico's Spa Blog: Saturday

Given our lack of competitiveness yesterday, I’m very pleased to have made it through to Q3 this afternoon. We made a lot of progress with the car overnight and I had to do a mega lap on the prime tyre at the end of Q2 to get there, but we managed it. We now have a competitive fuel load for the race, so I hope I can add to my seven consecutive points finishes tomorrow afternoon. The race is going to be very difficult to call because there is an unusual line-up at the front of the grid. Can Giancarlo convert his pole position into a race victory? And what about the competitiveness of the BMWs? I don’t think anyone in the paddock expected either of those teams to be up there coming into the weekend. My plan is to make steady progress up the order as those ahead of me head to the pits.
As I write this, it’s very chilly outside. Temperatures are forecast to drop to just two degrees tonight, before warming up tomorrow for what should be quite a hot race. We haven’t had any tyre temperature issues here, so I hope we can be competitive whatever the conditions. We’ll be giving it our best shot.
