iWitness in Singapore: Sunday

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s a speedboat! Nico Rosberg and Kazuki Nakajima needed to get from the Ritz Carlton to the Fullerton in time for an RBS lunch today and with all the road closures surrounding the Marina Bay circuit, the quickest way to travel was by boat. “It was cool,” said Nico. Almost as cool as the Tom Ford sunglasses he was wearing…
What was definitely cool, however, was the new ‘cooling vest’ that Nico wore on the grid prior to the start. Rather than emitting cold, the vest absorbed heat from Nico’s torso. “It definitely helped,” says Nico. “I’m going to wear it at all the hot races from now on.”
There was no rest for the boys tonight. Within minutes of the Singapore’s Grand Prix’s 10pm finish, the pack-up began because the freight leaves for Japan tomorrow morning. That meant placing more than 40 tonnes of equipment into containers in 30-degree heat, having worked flat-out all day. The glamorous world of F1, eh?
The Singapore paddock was alive with gossip about the 2010 driver market this evening. Alonso to Ferrari, Raikkonen to McLaren and Kubica to Renault were some of the stories doing the rounds. What news of Team Willie’s peddlers? No answers here, I’m afraid, although we did spot Jackie Stewart in deep conversation with Frank Williams. What do you reckon?
