Kazuki's Japanese Blog: Saturday

Yesterday’s wet weather gave us a lot to do during this morning’s final – dry – practice session. As soon as the lights went green at the end of the pitlane, we got to work and we didn’t stop until the start of qualifying.
The track was very green when the session started, with the result that grip levels improved by the lap as more rubber was laid down. That made it hard to judge the effectiveness of the set-up changes we made, to the extent that we went into qualifying with a few question marks.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t quick enough when it counted and set the 17th fastest time in qualifying. After the speed I’d showed in yesterday’s wet practice sessions, that was a very disappointing result. But there was some good news: there were various yellow flag infringements ahead of me on the grid, so I’ll actually get to start the race from 15th position.
From there, I should be able to have a good race. I’ve got a very heavy fuel load, so I’ll try and stay out of trouble at the start and then work my way up the order. As my loyal fans know only too well, I’ve yet to score a point this year and I can think of no better place to get off the mark than Suzuka.
