iWitness Silverstone Friday

Posted on Saturday 07 Jul 2007

The Formula 1 paddock is a political minefield. So the Conservative MP for Wantage, Ed Vaizey, must have felt at home when he was a guest of ATT Williams on Friday. Now, about that planning application, Sir Frank…

President of the BRDC and ex-ATT Williams driver Damon Hill paid the team a visit on Friday. While it was an opportunity for the 1996 World Champion to catch up with Sir Frank and the team’s Director of Engineering Patrick Head, it was also a chance for him to offer some tips about looking forever young. “Always eat in the Williams motorhome,” he said. Right, okay.

Talking of former World Champions and food, Jody Scheckter was busy behind the stove at Honda last night. The 1979 champ and his team from Laverstoke Park in Hampshire were serving up their organic food to the international media. “The nicest wild boar in the country,” Jody said of his main course.

This weekend is the 30th anniversary of Renault’s Formula 1 debut. Les Francais, with whom Williams won four world championships in the ’90s, don’t have an original RS01 on display at Silverstone this weekend, but they have re-painted one of this year’s R27s in the black and yellow colour scheme of that first car. Bon anniversaire!
