iWitness in Abu Dhabi: Thursday

German broadcaster RTL interviewed Nico Rosberg on a yacht in Yas Marina this afternoon. The Q&A session went well, until it was interrupted by loud music on an adjacent boat. Unfortunately, the TV crew couldn’t ask the boat’s owners to turn down the volume because it belonged to the Abu Dhabi Royal Family!

Sir Frank Williams is staying in the swish Yas Island Hotel this weekend, along with many other F1 glitterati. The hotel looks fantastic, but spare a thought for the window cleaners: there are 5,400 panes of glass on the hotel roof alone!

Zoltan Szujo, the Formula One commentator for Hungarian TV channel RTL Klub, donned AT&T Williams overalls this afternoon to join our regular pitstop practice. He took on the job of refueller and discovered that it’s harder than it looks. “I didn’t get it right on one occasion,” said Zoltan. “My respect for the pitcrew is now huge!”

Beyonce played to a crowd of 15,000 people at Ferrari World, adjacent to the Yas Marina Circuit, this evening. Many team members from along the pitlane were present, but not anyone from AT&T Williams. Nico Rosberg took the entire race team out to dinner as a ‘thank you’ after four years with the team. Beyonce or Nico? It’s got to be Nico every time!
