Kazuki's Abu Dhabi Blog: Friday

I’ve got a confession to make: a Japanese magazine asked to take pictures of me having lunch today and as soon as I heard them coming I hid my lasagne and pretended to be eating steamed carrots, steamed broccoli and rice! There’s nothing wrong with steamed veg and rice – I eat it all the time – but it wasn’t the only thing that I had for lunch! As for today’s on-track action, I had a pretty good time. It was great to drive around the Yas Marina Circuit for the first time; it’s got some really interesting sections, particularly the first few corners, and you have to be very careful when leaving the pitlane because there’s a very sharp left-hander that will catch you out if you push too hard. Some drivers have said it’s dangerous, but I don’t think that’s the case. It’s no sharper than the corner at the exit of the Interlagos pitlane.
My lap times were pretty close to Nico’s in both of today’s sessions and I made quite a lot of progress with the set-up of my FW31. There’s still more work to do because the track improved a lot from the beginning to the end of the day – my fastest lap in P2 was more than three seconds quicker than in P1 – and in those situations it’s difficult to know whether it’s the car or the track that’s got better. We’ll certainly learn more in tomorrow’s final practice session
