iWitness Silverstone Saturday

Saturday evening was barbecue central at the British GP. ATT Williams driver Nico Rosberg burnt a few bangers outside his motorhome in the BRDC car park, as did the Lenovo account manager, Jonny Odell, who lives 15 minutes from the track; and former Benetton and BAR Honda team boss David Richards invited the British media to his house near Stratford. No prizes for guessing which parties ended earliest and latest…

Lewis Hamilton’s paternal grandfather, Davidson, is at Silverstone this weekend to watch him race for the first time ever. Davidson – who drives a taxi for a living – has travelled from the Caribbean island of Grenada to be with his grandson.

A German laughing about the war? Surely not. But it’s true: BMW’s third driver, Sebastian Vettel, loves Harry Enfield’s Jurgen the German sketch. “I really like the one that goes, “I feel I must apologise for my nation’s conduct in the war…”

Look out for the yellow wristbands being worn by members of the ATT Williams team. They are “Look for Madeleine” bands aimed at maintaining press interest in the four-year-old girl Maddie McCann, who went missing in Portugal 66 days ago.
