The final day of preparation prior to the Turkish Grand Prix. I did a track walk with Nico this afternoon and he seemed pretty relaxed about the weekend ahead. He raced at Istanbul Park last year in GP2, so he knows the track well and should be able to hit the ground running in practice tomorrow.
Istanbul Park is definitely a track of two halves. The opening two sectors contain lots of fast corners and undulations, while the final sector is slow and technical. It’s an interesting challenge because you need to be quick through the slow bits because you spend so much time in them, but you mustn’t compromise your straight-line speed by putting on too much wing because you’ll be slow along Istanbul Park’s long straights.
Talking of slow, I wonder how long it took the rest of the team to get to Istanbul? Rubens was in the factory yesterday and I hitched a lift in his private plane, which was pretty cool - and fast! How the other half live...
