iWitness in Istanbul - Thursday

Happy birthday, Rubens! He turned 38 on Sunday and to mark the occasion we presented him with a birthday cake this afternoon. We even put a racing car on it; you’re never too old to have a racing car on your birthday cake, are you?
Getting around Istanbul by road is a nightmare. The traffic is appalling and it’s easy to get lost, which is why AT&T Williams has employed some locals to drive the team vans this weekend. A foolproof system, you might think, unless the drivers don’t know the way either… and that’s what happened last night. In the end, a passer-by jumped into the van carrying the truckies and got everyone to the hotel.
Rubens visited the AT&T Williams factory in Grove yesterday. He was there for a seat fitting, but he took the chance to be measured up for a set of Williams golf clubs. The clubs were launched in Monaco a fortnight ago and will go on-sale later this year. See www.williams-sports.com for more information.
Valtteri Bottas, our Finnish test driver, completed his first F1 miles on Monday when he conducted an afternoon of straight-line testing at Silverstone. “It was unbelievable,” he said afterwards. “I’d love to have another go soon.” We’ll see what we can do, Valtteri.
