iWitness Germany Thursday

Sir Frank playing host, Patrick turning the sausages, Sam flipping the burgers: the ATT Williams summer barbecue was a glitzy occasion last weekend. Even the drivers rocked up, Nico Rosberg with girlfriend Vivienne and Alex Wurz with wife Julia and children Felix and Charlie. Ever the thinking man, Alex is already laying the foundations of Felix’s racing career.

The BBQ came at the end of a spectacular week for Wurzy. He was kite-surfing in 40-knot winds in the Mediterranean on Wednesday, testing at the spectacular Spa-Francorchamps circuit on Thursday and he flew in a Tornado fighter plane on Friday. “I am a lucky bastard,” he said. Indeed.

Alex flew in a Tornado GR4 with II Squadron from RAF Marham. It was his first experience of a fighter, and he loved it. The 1hr20min sortie took him up the east coast of England, into Scotland and back. “It was one of the best experiences of my life,” said Alex. It’s not for iWitness to spill the beans: read about the team’s Top Gun on our website soon!

iWitness was pleased to see Nico fully clothed when he arrived at the Nurburgring. The last we heard, he was watching the Tour de France near Marseille wearing only Bermuda shorts. “I can’t believe you found out!” said Nico. “I enjoyed seeing the Tour on Wednesday, but I was surprised by the speed of the bikes. I thought they’d be faster.” Clearly, Nico has never cycled 3,000 kilometres in three weeks…
