Rubens Barrichello and Nico Hulkenberg haven’t been the only members of AT&T Williams exerting themselves this weekend. Every evening account manager Nick Hayes has lapped the track by bike and every morning he has knocked up 850 metres of the hotel pool. Why? He’s contesting the Blenheim Palace triathlon next weekend. Good luck, lad!
With this being the only ‘sail-away’ race of the year (the transporters travel by boat from Istanbul to Trieste in Italy, before being driven by land back to the UK), our FW32s won’t return to Grove until Friday. That gives us just 36 hours to turn the cars around before they fly to Montreal for the next race on the calendar…
Celebrities were a bit thin on the ground at today’s Turkish Grand Prix. Nicole Scherzinger, Lewis Hamilton’s Pussycat Doll girlfriend, put in her first race weekend appearance of the year (“She brings me luck,” said Lewis), and there was also the world’s tallest man, Sultan Kosen, who stands at 8 feet 1 inch. He was never going to make an F1 driver, was he?
Finally, there was a collective sigh of relief from the F1 paddock this evening. The Eyjafjallajökull volcano in Iceland has stopped erupting – for now – so there was no volcanic ash to disrupt air travel. Just the British Airways strike...
