Patrick Head’s flight from Heathrow was delayed by three hours yesterday, which meant he didn’t land in Montreal until midnight. Fortunately, we didn’t have anyone waiting at the airport all that time because team manager Tim Newton was able to use the flight-tracking app on his iPhone to monitor Patrick’s progress. The wonders of modern technology.
The rivalry between McLaren and AT&T Williams reached new heights today when Macca’s Andy Latham ran the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in 14 minutes. That was three minutes quicker than our best time, which was set by chief mechanic Carl Gaden. Back to the running machines, boys; let the battle resume in Valencia…
Many happy returns to Sir Jackie Stewart. The three-time world champion turned 71 today and celebrated by taking selected members of the British press out to dinner at one of Montreal’s most exclusive restaurants, Queue de Cheval. And he paid!
You’ve gotta love Lewis Hamilton’s mechanics. After turning up in Turkey two weeks ago with pierced ears, his boys all sported earrings prior to this morning’s first practice session. Lewis loved it, apparently. It reminded us of ’97, when Jacques Villeneuve’s mechanics turned up wearing blond wigs after he’d dyed his hair.
