Rubens Barrichello likes his footie. He’s wearing yellow race boots this weekend as a show of support for the Brazilian football team and this afternoon he requested that his PR activities be moved so that he could watch the Brazil-Portugal game from Durban. Luckily, Brazil aren’t playing at 2pm on Sunday...
Nico Hulkenberg’s entourage has trebled in size this weekend. Usually, he travels to races only with his trainer Nick Harris, but he has his mother, father, sister and sister’s boyfriend with him this weekend. Let’s hope he gives them something to shout about!
Heikki Kovalainen is a professional driver, but he took the job too far yesterday when his flight from Geneva to Valencia was cancelled. At 10pm he made the decision to tackle the 1200km journey by road and he arrived in Valencia at 0500 today. “I felt a bit tired in all the meetings,” he said, “but in the car the adrenaline kicks in and it’s no problem.” Attaboy!
Our final travel nightmare story comes courtesy of Renault. Their mechanics were faced with an early start this morning after the van carrying new parts from their Enstone base in the UK hit a deer on an autoroute in France. The resultant delay meant the guys couldn’t begin work on the parts until today. Oh dear.
