Rubens is the meat in a Button sandwich this weekend. On one side of his motorhome in the BRDC car park is the Winnebago of Jenson Button’s father, John; on the other side is the motorhome of Jenson’s mum, Simone. They’re divorced, so good luck Rubens.

The cross of St George is flying above the AT&T Williams pitwall gantry this weekend, as it did at the European Grand Prix two weeks ago. In Valencia we flew the flag in support of the England football team; this weekend we’re flying it because we did well in Valencia and the engineers are feeling superstitious!

The track builders were out in force last night after the drivers complained about the ‘sausage’ kerbs on the inside of the first right-hander at Becketts. Pneumatic drills, a JCB and 10 workmen worked until after dark to flatten it out; talk about lastminute.com...

Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton drove to Silverstone in a VW Camper yesterday morning. While en route from Woking, they stopped at various locations to give away tickets to Sunday’s race, but not everyone took up their offer. One person told Jenson: “I hate F1, give them to someone else!”
