“Is there anything else you need?” asked Tony Ross, Rubens Barrichello’s race engineer during a pits-to-car radio conversation at the end of second practice. “Yes,” said Rubens. “A banana milkshake.” Sure enough, Rubens’ physio Achim ???? had a milkshake ready by the time his driver returned to the pits. That’s what we call team orders....

There was drama for the BBC 5 Live team this evening when the clutch on their hire car broke while driving in Budapest. Producer Jason Swales was left yanking the gear stick between cogs and, miraculously, he got the car back to their hotel without incident. Quick question: why did you guys agree to use a hire car with 200,000kms on the clock?

Congratulations to Jon McEvoy. The Daily Mail’s F1 correspondent is going to become the paper’s Olympics correspondent later in the year, paving the way for some fresh blood in Fleetstreet’s corner of the F1 pressroom. You never know, we might even re-name our British press breakfasts next year! (Cue picture of poster!)

Liam Clogger and Nick Hayes were back in their running shorts this evening, completing their second lap of the Hungaroring in two days. Why the punishment, lads? Did no-one tell you that the Beeb weren’t fliming on-track this evening?
