The summer break is over and it’s time to drag our team members back from holiday. Rubens, get yourself back from Brazil; Nico, please pack your swimming trunks and leave the beach in Turkey, and technical director Sam Michael, get yourself out of blinking Tourrettes in France…

A couple of birthdays were celebrated during the four-week summer break. Steve Lawrence, a mechanic on Nico’s car, turned another year older, as did ‘Security Steve’, our garage night watchman when we’re at races. Many happy returns guys.

There was a great turnout for Rubens’ 300th GP celebrations this evening. AT&T Williams held an invitation-only cocktail party for the F1 paddock, to which Bernie Ecclestone and all of the drivers came

Rubens has brought his wife, his father and his uncle to this race. They’re all camping near the La Source hairpin, which, given the awful weather, is filling them with horror. “I hate camping,” says wife Silvana. “Why can’t we stay in a normal hotel like everyone else?”
