Jerez Test Day One
Posted on Tuesday 24 Jul 2007
Hot off Alex Wurz’s impressive drive to fourth place at last weekend’s European Grand Prix at a rain-drenched Nurburgring, the team have moved on to sunnier climes in southern Spain this week for a three day test at Jerez.
The team’s test driver, Kazuki Nakajima, was on duty for the first day of work to allow Nico and Alex some brief respite before returning to the cockpit. Joining GP2’s rising star were six fellow test drivers, including Pedro de la Rosa for McLaren Mercedes, Franck Montagny for Toyota, James Rossiter for Super Aguri, Christian Klien for Honda, Nelsinho Piquet for Renault F1 and Sebastien Buemi, making his debut for Red Bull Racing.
With no disruptions or poor weather hindering proceedings, Kazuki clocked the highest number of laps over the day (104) and set the third quickest time with a 1:21.424, behind the fastest driver, de la Rosa, and second placed man, Montagny.
The team will resume work tomorrow, again with Kazuki in the cockpit of the FW29.
Dickie Stanford, Test Team Manager, Williams F1:
"We had a trouble free day today doing set-up work prior to the next race in Budapest. There were no problems with the car and we will carry on with our test programme with Kazuki tomorrow."
