The paddock Gestapo is out in force at Spa this weekend. They are forever asking people to present their passes, so, to help Frank Williams, we’ve printed out an A4-sized pass, which he carries on his lap morning, noon and night. It cannot be missed!

There was some intra-team strife at the AT&T Williams hotel last night. Account managers Richard Lavers and Nick Hayes are sharing a room this weekend and Lavers’ snoring kept Hayes awake last night. “I had to hit him repeatedly over the head with a pillow,” says Hayes. “Our room is not a nice place to be.” Sleep well tonight, mate…

The metal stairs leading from the motorhomes up to the Spa pitlane have been dubbed ‘the stairs of death’. When wet (when have they not been?), they are incredibly slippery and various people have taken a tumble this weekend. Fernando Alonso’s trainer, Fabrizio Borra, grazed his arm, as did McLaren PR Steve Cooper. Who’ll be next?

Circuit architect Hermann Tilke is at Spa-Francorchamps this weekend and he has some news: “Korea will be ready,” he says. “I’ve read some negative stories in the press and I can tell you that we’ll be there on 24 October. The weather has delayed construction a bit, but we’re on schedule to get everything finished on time.”
