What better way to start the Italian Grand Prix – the last European race of the year – than with a hangover? Our motorhome staff were feeling a bit second rate this morning after being taken out to dinner by our head of marketing, Matt Jones, last night. The evening was a ‘thank you’ for all their hard work this season – a pressure job for the restaurant, who had to serve three chefs and four professional waitresses! There were nervous glances in the pitlane last night after what one mechanic described as “the biggest lightning storm ever”. Memories of the 2008 Italian Grand Prix, when the garages were flooded by rain water came (flooding) back, but there were no such problems this time around. You can put the mops away, lads.
Frank Williams is the only member of AT&T Williams’ senior management at this race. Chairman Adam Parr is away on business and engineering director Patrick Head is doing a vintage motorcycle rally in Nepal. Really. Good luck Patrick!
Sauber driver Kamui Kobayashi is wearing a black ribbon on his overalls this weekend in memory of Japanese Moto2 rider Shoya Tomizawa, who was killed at Misano last weekend. AT&T Williams sends its condolences to Shoya’s friends and family.
