iWitness in Turkey: Sunday

The Sunday Times’ Rich List was published today and it came as no surprise to find Bernie Ecclestone at the top of the Formula One tree. He has an estimated wealth of £2.5 billion, which places him 23rd overall, up from number 38 last year. Lakshmi Mittal, a shareholder at QPR Football Club alongside Bernie, topped the list with £17.5 billion.
The increasing power of the internet was highlighted by the BBC today. More than 500,000 people in the UK watched yesterday’s qualifying session on-line, prompting presenter Jake Humphrey to announce on Twitter: “It’s the future!” A sentiment supported by AT&T Williams.
AT&T Williams won the race to dismantle its motorhome after today’s race. By 11pm, the entire structure had been placed in boxes and Ferrari hadn’t even started taking their pair of three-storey structures apart. Given that the freight has to return to Europe via boat, time is of the essence at either end.
Harry Kewell, of Galatasaray football fame, wanted to come to the Turkish Grand Prix today as a guest of fellow Australian Mark Webber. But his team is doing so badly in the Turkish Super Lig (14th at the last look) that none of the players are being permitted to attend any public functions off the football pitch. Tough luck, Harry!
