The "Making Of" Movie
Posted on Friday 12 Oct 2007
At the beginning of every Formula One season, Williams F1’s marketing department takes possession of the team’s new car with its fresh livery and spends two days filming what is commonly referred to as “collaterals” to provide library footage for our partners’ use in their annual promotional materials.
Collaterals is always an intense two days of filming and photography, invariably at a very cold Jerez track in Spain, during which a multitude of briefs from a very diverse partner community must be fulfilled in a limited amount of time. Working alongside 25 marketing and race team personnel from Williams F1, German production company, RTV, take a crew of 30 people as well as four tonnes of equipment to Jerez to film the shoot.
The finished product is as you would expect – a pre-packaged, slick vnr (video news reel) which our partners can individually brand post-production using state of the art digital imagery techniques.
What goes on behind the scenes during the team’s collateral filming days has always remained something of a mystery…until now. At this year’s event, a camera followed the cameras to bring you the “Making Of” movie which unveils all the nitty gritty behind such an extravagant production.
