Thursday iWitness in Brazil

Confidence is high at ATT Williams. The team cleaned up at Petrobras’s annual “Football Racing” event in Sao Paulo on Wednesday, beating squads from Red Bull Racing, McLaren and Toyota. A good race weekend will surely follow…

The rivalry between ATT Williams and Red Bull Racing is in danger of bubbling over. Only four points separate the teams in the Constructors’ Championship and while playing football against one another on Wednesday, a Red Bull mechanic took out our new star Kazuki Nakajima with a two-footed tackle. Where were the FIA stewards when we needed them?

As usual, there is travel chaos in Brazil. Delays to Nico Rosberg’s flight to Rio de Janeiro last weekend resulted in him turning up a little late to a Petrobras PR event, while Jenson Button didn’t make it to Sao Paulo until Thursday night after a fuel pump problem on his plane forced the pilot to land in Miami. And that is to say nothing of Claire Williams’ troubles, of which we’ll tell you more tomorrow....

Nigel Mansell has sold his golf course in South West England for 14 million (pounds). The 1992 Williams World Champion invested 10m in the Woodbury Park Golf and Country Club, so he’s turned a tidy profit on the place. Enough to finance the racing careers of sons Greg and Leo?
