AT&T Williams hoped for more than eighth (Nico Rosberg) and 16th (Kazuki Nakajima) positions on the grid, but there were no ‘tears in heaven’ after qualifying. Excuse the terrible pun, but singer/song writing legend Eric Clapton was a welcome guest of the team today.
Ever wondered how Nico relaxes prior to qualifying and the race? He listens to the U2 track Beautiful Day on his ipod. “It just puts me in a good mood,” he revealed in Bahrain. “Mind you, I know it so well now that I might have to find a new song.”
Being a typically English team, AT&T Williams takes several pots of its mate Marmite to every race. However, you won’t find Kazuki Nakajima spreading it on his toast each morning. “What’s Marmite,” he says. “Can you get it in Japan?”
We’ve always been told that the origins of the term ‘pole position’ stem from horse racing. That is in fact not the case. “The sport has been waiting 58 years for Robert Kubica, F1’s first Polish driver, to set the fastest time in qualifying,” said BMW boss Mario Theissen yesterday. Indeed!
