At the 1992 French Grand Prix, Nigel Mansell set his 20th pole position for Williams and went on to score his 25th victory in a Williams car. It also marked the first in a series of a record 24 consecutive poles positions for the Williams team, which lasted through to the Japanese GP in 1993.



1985
Keke Rosberg has good reason to look back fondly on the French Grand Prix. It was in the 1985 event that he set the fastest lap in a race for the first time. The Finn would later go on to repeat the feat twice more during the same season.



Sign of Things to Come
Back in 1979, the French Grand Prix was the first time ever that two Williams finished in the points, with Alan Jones fourth and Clay Regazzoni sixth.




Favourite Spot
Williams loves its time in France, and over the years has scored more points (184) at the French Grand Prix than at any other event. In that time, the team has had ten poles and 17 front rows along with nine fastest laps, 21 podiums and eight victories.

Nigel Mansell’s win in France in 1987 started a run of six consecutive Grand Prix wins for Williams, shared equally between himself and Nelson Piquet. The team finished as Constructors’ Champions, with Piquet and Mansell first and second in the Drivers’ Championship.
