Off the Beaten Track Indy

Posted on Saturday 16 Jun 2007

Formula One will visit 17 different countries this season across five continents. From Melbourne to Malaysia, Silverstone to Shanghai, Fuji to France, Barcelona to Brazil…that’s not only a lot air miles, but plenty of new cultural experiences just waiting to entice you. So, if you’re planning a trip to any of the Grand Prix this year and can tear yourself away from the race track for just a moment, why not experience the best local culture has to offer? Whether you want to know where to lay your hands on the cheapest drink in Monaco or where to find the nearest Kangaroo enclosure in Melbourne or the best curry house in Silverstone, we have the inside track so let us be your guide in our new feature “Off the Beaten Track. If you have your own suggestions, please feel free to email them to us at insidetrack@williamsf1.com and we will include the best submissions in all future entries! USA If you do just one thing that is not on your itinerary already this weekend make time to visit the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame. One of the world's largest, most varied collections of racing, classic and antique cars, including more than 30 Indy 500 race winning cars. The collection also boasts a host of race equipment, trophies and photography all under the same roof. Best of all, it is only a few minutes walk from wherever you are around the track and will fill the gaps between sessions. Before you leave, visit the Souvenir shop which is (motor-racing) world famous. Away from the track altogether and one of Indy's highlights is the Eiteljorg Museum, located in the White River State Park, which houses one of the best collections of Native American and contemporary art in the world and is well worth a trip. Alternatively, you could head to the American Super Heroes Museum. The Super Heroes museum is a collection of Superman and Batman memorabilia located in downtown Indianapolis. One of only two museums of its kind, "Heroes" features screen worn costumes, toys, collectibles and a replica of the Michael Keaton Batman Returns batmobile and an Adam West batboat!
