iWitness in Brazil: Sunday

There wasn’t the usual dash for the airport after today’s race. Most members of AT&T Williams headed for the Red Bull party to celebrate the retirement of David Coulthard who, lest we forget, won his first Grand Prix in a Williams at Estoril in 1995. Nico Rosberg in particular was looking forward to it: “I’m going to be the last man standing,” he said.
A big shout out to our chefs Hilary Weaver and Adam Dixon. They’ve been serving more than 200 meals a day in the Interlagos paddock from a kitchen that’s only six feet by three feet. Well done for persevering, guys!
The top three drivers in today’s Brazilian Grand Prix received unique prizes on the podium. Felipe Massa, Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen were presented with trophies made of green plastic, a 100 percent renewable polymer. Who said F1’s not environmentally friendly?
The 2008 Formula One World Championship has been one of the most competitive in the history of the sport. There were seven different winners from five different teams and 14 out of the 20 drivers on the grid finished on the podium, including AT&T Williams star Nico Rosberg, twice.
Before anyone gets too carried away with their plans for the off-season, Williams F1’s Team Co-ordinator, Paul Singlehurst, is quick to point out that there’s little time to relax. “It’s only 72 days until the freight leaves for Australia,” he says. Er… thanks, Paul.
