AT&T Williams' official test driver, Nico Hulkenberg, spearheaded the team's testing efforts today on the opening day of a three day test ahead of the Christmas and New Year break.
At Spain's Jerez track, the team will be undertaking a series of 2009 preparations with the modified FW30B this week, including slick tyre development work, set-up optimisation and aero evaluations with particular emphasis on the revised front wing.
On his first day back in the cockpit for a some time, Nico clocked the fifth fastest time of the session with a 1:20.704 and covered 442.8km of the 4.428km circuit.
Dickie Stanford, Test Team Manager, Williams F1:
“Nico Hulkenberg started our three day test in Jerez this week and continued work on our winter development programme. Despite a damp track this morning which restricted our time on track, Nico completed 100 laps of tyre testing and had no technical issues. Kazuki takes over the FW30B tomorrow for the remaining two days of the test.”
