Nico's Malaysian Blog: Friday
Posted on Saturday 04 Apr 2009 and tagged with Nico-Rosberg, Malaysia.
A good first day at the office. The track was quite slippery early on, but it rubbered-in quickly and the FW31 performed well. We made a lot of changes to the set-up during the day and the car reacted as we expected, which was positive. I was quickest in P1 and fourth in P2, so we’re clearly on the right track, although it would be naïve to read too much into the lap times because it’s only Friday.
After Melbourne, it feels nice to drive on a normal racetrack again. The middle sector of the lap is amazing, with some very challenging fast corners, and it’s through there that you really get to appreciate the performance of a Formula One car.
The only negative aspect of my day was that I woke up this morning with a bit of a cold, which is annoying but typical at this race. We’re always going into and out of air conditioning because of the heat, and it’s only so long before your body cries “enough”! It didn’t seem to affect my performance in the car because I was able to complete 66 laps without any problems, and hopefully it will be better tomorrow.
