Nico's Malaysian Blog: Saturday

Qualifying at Sepang proved that the FW31 was “born well”, to use a motor racing expression. The car was well balanced throughout the session and I’m pleased to start the race from fourth on the grid. This is where we hoped we’d be prior to the start to the season and long may it continue!
It’s going to be very close in the race because myself, Mark Webber and the Toyotas are all starting with the same fuel load. That doesn’t mean we’ll be making our pitstops on the same lap because some of us might stop earlier than absolutely necessary. What it does mean, however, is that there are going to be some pretty intense battles on the racetrack.
Another piece of good news today was that I woke up feeling much better than yesterday. Last night I went to bed feeling quite ill, a bit coldy, but a good night’s sleep did the trick and I felt much better when I woke up.
The late start of tomorrow’s race will make the heat less intense than in the past, but it’s still going to be physically tough because it always is at Sepang. Even when it rains, it’s hot; it’s like standing in the shower! If I can get a trouble-free run for 56 laps, I think I can get a good result.
