Nico's Malaysian Blog: Sunday

To lead the opening 15 laps of the Malaysian Grand Prix on merit was a great boost for everyone at AT&T Williams. I made a fantastic start from fourth place, on the dirty side of the grid, to lead into the first corner and was able to pull away easily. My race pace confirmed the potential that the FW31 showed in Australia, so I’m really excited about the rest of the season.
Unfortunately, the rain arrived at a bad time for me in terms of my pitstop window. I ended up having to make four stops and was classified eighth when the race was red flagged after 31 laps. It was the right decision to stop the race because it was impossible to keep the car on the track, let alone race, in those conditions. There weren’t streams of water running across the track, it was one big lake!
I’m not returning to Europe prior to the Chinese Grand Prix on 19 April. My girlfriend Vivian landed in Kuala Lumpur this morning and we’re heading down to Bali tomorrow for a mix of work and play. My physio will be there, so he’ll make me do some high altitude training, but I’ll also do some relaxing and take time out for a few photographs. I went to Bali after Singapore last year and I’m really looking forward to going back there.
Then it’s onto the Shanghai International Circuit, where I hope FW31 will once again be competitive. I like the racetrack and hope that it remains dry so that we can show everyone what we can do.
