iWitness in Shanghai: Saturday

The lifts at the Shanghai Sheraton were broken last night, which posed a problem for those members of AT&T Williams with rooms on the higher floors. It took Silvia Hoffer, our uber-fit PR officer, 15 minutes to climb up to the 20th floor en route to bed. It was lucky there wasn’t a fire in the middle of the night…
The credit crunch appears to be hitting the big hotel chains. Last year the Shanghai Sheraton left a teddy bear on the bed of each member of AT&T Williams every evening; this year it’s a solitary chocolate!
Quote of the week goes to AT&T Williams boss Frank Williams. When informed in Australia that the legality of the FW31 was being protested by rival teams, he said: “Excellent! I’m delighted. They wouldn’t protest a bad car, would they?”
Could it be that BMW boss Mario Theissen is vying for a race drive with his team? Last week he was spotted travelling at 245kph (150mph) on the German autobahn near Munich in a 6-Series BMW. He might be a corporate man by trade, but he’s a racer at heart.
