iWitness Magny-Cours Friday
Posted on Saturday 30 Jun 2007
“Ello, ’ello ’ello (or should that read “’allo, ’allo, ’allo?). AT&T Williams driver Nico Rosberg felt the heavy hand of the law this morning when he was nicked for riding his scooter without a helmet. Actually, his faux pas amounted to little more than a slap on the wrist from the local gendarme because he wasn’t on a public road. F1 commercial boss Bernie Ecclestone isn’t in Magny Cours; he’s in Las Vegas. He’s allegedly doing a deal with the casino capital of the world for a race in 2009, and while he’s in town the ever-fly Septuagenarian will no doubt invest in some real estate in what is America’s fastest-growing city. Six drivers (Nico Rosberg, Kimi Raikkonen, Tonio Liuzzi, Robert Kubica, Rubens Barrichello, Anthony Davidson) had to do a dope test on Friday afternoon. Each was required to pee in a pot – a simple enough instruction, unless your name’s Robert Kubica. It took the Pole more than an hour to produce the goods... Could Sebastian Vettel be about to drive in his second GP? The 19-year-old was asked to attend the drivers’ briefing in place of regular BMW driver Nick Heidfeld, who was having a scan on his back. Could the young lad be a jinx?
