Kazuki's Turkish Blog: Friday
Posted on Saturday 06 Jun 2009 and tagged with kazuki, turkey, istanbul.
A solid opening day of practice, but, as usual on a Friday, I’m not reading anything into the lap times. The track was very dusty this morning, which made it very slippery and the FW31 felt quite loose at the rear, but I think it was the same for all the cars.
The performance became a bit more predictable this afternoon, once some rubber had been laid down, but it was still quite difficult to get the prime and the option tyres working properly. What we did find out, however, was that the new aero parts on the car are working as we’d hoped.
Towards the end of session two I had a small incident with Giancarlo Fisichella, which resulted in both of us having to report to the race stewards. We touched wheels at the penultimate corner, spinning us both round, and the stewards wanted to know how that could have happened during a practice session.
Standing outside their office felt a bit like waiting to see the headmaster at school. You have to wait until called for and I was a bit nervous! As it was, neither of us was punished.
The weather is predicted to get hotter throughout the remainder of the weekend, so it will be interesting to see how the tyres hold up. By this time tomorrow, we’ll know a lot more about our potential in the race.
