iWitness in Istanbul: Saturday

At their autograph session with the fans this afternoon, Nico Rosberg and Kazuki Nakajima were given some interesting messages. Nico was given letters in which teenage girls expressed their undying love for him, perhaps as a result of his chat yesterday in Turkish to the country’s F1 broadcaster TNT. Pity for them that Nico recently moved in with girlfriend Vivian.
Is there ever a moment when team-mates don’t want to beat each other? In a quiz this afternoon about the forthcoming British Grand Prix, Nico and Kazuki fought tooth and nail to take the spoils. They were neck-and-neck until the final question... to find out who won, you’ll have to tune into our team podcast next week.
Watchmaker Oris have a lot of guests at this weekend’s race, but, ironically, not all of them have made it to the racetrack on time. Some Greek guests were 2.5 hours late for dinner in the AT&T Williams motorhome last night, having got lost en route to Istanbul Park. Anyone heard of a Sat Nav?
There has been a lot of talk about “The Race” this weekend, but it’s not the one taking place tomorrow afternoon. Two of Fleetstreet’s finest, Jon McEvoy of the Daily Mail and Ed Gorman of The Times, raced on foot around one lap of Istanbul Park this evening. Fifty pounds was the bet… and it was Gorman who had to pay up. It wasn’t even close, we’re told. Fit body, fit mind?
