Born in Sheffield, Oliver began karting at the age of seven and spent a successful decade racing in a variety of karting championships.
Oliver’s success didn’t go unnoticed and in 2007, McLaren signed him to their Young Driver Programme. In 2010, Oliver made the step up from karting to cars, and won his first championship a year later. In 2011, Oliver has further success by winning the prestigious McLaren Autosport Award which rewarded him with a Formula One test the following year.
From 2011-2015, Oliver won two championships, became vice-champion twice and didn’t finish outside of the top five in all the categories he raced in.
Oliver has achieved considerable success whilst working his way up through the junior ranks. In 2016, he became a member of the Renault Sport Academy whilst competing in Formula One’s support series, GP2. The team named him their Development Driver for the following year where he gained additional mileage in a Formula One car.
In 2018, will assist the team with simulator work at the team’s factory in Grove, and will drive the FW41 in the Young Driver Test following the Spanish Grand Prix.
