Every eight hours someone in the UK is told that they may never walk again due to spinal cord damage.
Spinal Injuries Association (SIA) is the leading national user-led charity for spinal cord injured (SCI) people. Being a user-led organisation, SIA are well placed to understand the everyday needs of living with an injury. SIA are here to meet those needs, by providing key services to share information and experience, and to campaign for change, ensuring each person can lead a full and active life. They also support the families and friends of newly injured people, as well as increasing knowledge and awareness of the causes and consequences of spinal cord injury.
Spinal cord injury is life changing and it can happen to anyone, at any time through accident or illness. Spinal cord injury often causes paralysis and can affect many other aspects of a person’s health, including bladder and bowel management, blood pressure regulation and body temperature control.
The relationship between Spinal Injuries Association and Williams is a special one, with Claire Williams, our Vice President becoming an ambassador for SIA in 2016 and Williams supporting SIA on many ventures including the newly launched SIA Motorsport Club.
SIA is proud to have supported Sir Frank Williams after his injury, nearly 31 years ago.
