Dave’s first experience of cars and engines came when he started work in the motor trade, meanwhile studying for an HND at a technical college in Reading.

Dave’s passion for cars grew stronger as he then became involved with the Porsche UK racing scene whilst also helping at his local motor club in Craven, and that’s when he was bitten by the bug.

Working as a mechanic, it was only so long before Dave would be tempted towards the world of Formula One and when an opening came up at Benetton, he took it.

Starting out in the gearbox shop, Dave worked his way up to become No.1 Mechanic on the Race Team. After Schumacher’s 1994 world championship win, Dave left to join McLaren as No1 Mechanic on Mika Häkkinen’s car.

Dave then took a brief hiatus from McLaren, helping set up Stewart Grand Prix as Chief Mechanic. Dave stayed at Stewart GP as the team transitioned from Stewart to Jaguar Racing, before returning to Woking as a Systems Engineer for the 2001 season. He gradually worked his way up to Head of Race Operations before becoming Team Manager in 2009, working with F1 World Champions such as Kimi Raikkonen, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button.
