Bruno Senna
For years Bruno Senna raced karts against his uncle, Ayrton, on the
family farm in Brazil, but he didn’t make his competitive race debut
until he was 20 years old, in the Formula BMW UK Championship in 2004.
He scored six points in six races.
The following year Bruno joined Räikkönen Robertson Racing to compete in
the British F3 Championship. He stayed with the team for a second year
in 2006 and finished third in the final standings after taking five
victories.
GP2 was Bruno’s next stop on the career ladder, in 2007. He finished
fourth on his debut in Bahrain and scored his first win in the feature
race in Spain at the following event. He signed for iSport International
in 2008 and claimed his first win of the season in the Monaco feature
race. In total Bruno claimed two wins, six podiums and three pole
positions in GP2, narrowly missing out on the title. He also tested for
the Honda Racing F1 Team in the autumn of ’08, just before the
manufacturer pulled out of the sport.
In 2009, in a bid to maintain race fitness, Bruno turned his attention
to sports car racing. He secured two podiums from three Le Mans Series
races, as well as taking part in the Le Mans 24 Hours. Towards the end
of this season he announced a deal to race with the Hispania Racing F1
team in 2010.
Bruno started the 2011 season as official reserve driver for Lotus Renault GP. He competed in eight races after replacing Nick Heidfeld from the Belgium Grand Prix onwards, qualifying seventh in his first race. After qualifying inside the top ten again at Monza, Bruno secured his first F1 points with a ninth place finish.
In January 2012, Williams F1 confirmed Senna as a race driver alongside Pastor Maldonado.
