Toto Wolff - Non Executive Director

Toto_1_article

Toto Wolff’s passion for motorsport was first ignited when he went to watch the German Formula 3 Championship aged 18. He started racing a couple of years later.

Initially he competed in Austria’s Seat Ibiza Cup, before switching to single-seaters and Formula Ford. He scored several wins and began working as an instructor at the Walter Lechner Racing School, where he got to compete at weekends – effectively becoming a professional Formula Ford driver.

In the mid-’90s Toto was forced to quit racing due to a lack of funding and worked for an Austrian banking group in Poland and a steel processing company in Vienna.
In 1998 he built up his private equity company, which began doing very well, and by the end of the decade he had returned to the cockpit in the FIA GT Championship.

In 2002 Toto expanded his involvement in motorsport beyond the cockpit when he set up a driver management company. Its success encouraged him to build up a portfolio of motorsport businesses in the ensuing years.

Toto stopped racing regularly at the end of 2004, although he shared the winning car in the 2006 Dubai 24 Hours and was also runner-up, that season, in the Austrian Rally Championship. In April 2009 he took a Porsche 997 RSR to the classic Nürburgring Nordschleiffe in Germany and set a new GT lap record.

At the end of 2009, Toto bought shares in Williams F1 and became a Non-Executive Director.
