WILLIAMS RACING AWARDED FIA’S THREE STAR ENVIRONMENTAL ACCREDITATION

Williams Racing joins Formula 1™ and a small number of other motorsport stakeholders in achieving the highest level of the FIA’s Environmental Accreditation Programme
-  The announcement follows Williams Racing’s commitment to becoming Climate Positive by 2030 as part of a wide-ranging Sustainability Strategy earlier this month

Williams Racing is pleased to announce that the team has been awarded the highest level of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile’s Environmental Accreditation Programme, following an audit of its Environmental Management System in August. The industry specific programme, which draws upon the ISO14001 guidelines, aims to help motorsport stakeholders to measure and enhance their environmental performance.

With this achievement, Williams Racing joins Formula 1™ and a small number of other motorsport stakeholders in reaching the highest level of certification, solidifying, and giving credit to our commitment to a more sustainable future of motorsport.

This announcement follows Williams Racing’s commitment to becoming Climate Positive by 2030 as part of a wide-ranging Sustainability Strategy earlier this month, focusing on five key pillars: Climate Action, Biodiversity Stewardship, Sustainable Innovation, Industry Access for All and Purpose Driven Leadership. Williams Racing is committed to emissions reduction targets in line with the Paris Climate Agreement and UN climate Change Global Agenda and has set out to use its strong heritage in transferring Formula One technology to the EV and sustainable transport and energy sectors, in an effort to create technological solutions which contribute towards addressing the issues facing our planet.

Jost Capito, CEO, Williams Racing: “Formula One has the power to inspire millions of people across the globe and has been at the forefront of an incredible amount of advanced technologies. We, as an industry, have the power to use our sport as a platform and catalyst for good, helping to tackle the challenges we face as a planet and Williams Racing therefore welcomes the FIA’s Environmental Accreditation Programme as an incentive to push the envelope on climate action. We are proud to have achieved this highest level of accreditation and will continue in our pursuit of ambitious objectives to help raise the baseline of sustainable performance in our industry and beyond.”

Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO, Formula 1™: “I congratulate Williams Racing on this amazing achievement which shows the strong commitment by the team and the whole sport to create and deliver a sustainable sport for the future. Formula 1™ has a commitment to be net zero carbon by 2030 and this involves everyone in the sport. We are all doing a lot already to reduce our carbon footprint, eliminate waste and single use plastics and within the coming years we will create a sustainable fuel for the cars that will be a game changer for the automotive sector. Once again Formula 1™ can be a leader in technological innovations that provide real world solutions and Williams Racing is showing that it is playing its big part in positive change.”

Jean Todt, FIA President: "The FIA Environmental Certification Framework is an important standard by which sustainability is measured across motor sport and its stakeholders. I am pleased to see that the strong commitments and actions made by Williams Racing have brought it to the Three Star level and I congratulate them for this important achievement. Pioneering innovations have always been part of motor racing. FIA and Formula 1™ have pledged to be net zero carbon by 2030 and all teams can thus contribute to this strategic objective."
