A solid season for Williams, but one in which it can’t compete with Michael Schumacher’s Benetton. Damon Hill is the only driver to take the fight to the German, winning four races, but he’s still 33 points adrift come the end of the year. David Coulthard takes his first pole position at the second race in Argentina, but he has to wait until round 13 in Portugal to score his first win. The Scot suffers from tonsillitis during the early stages of the season, but he still manages to demonstrate great consistency and he finishes third in his first full year of F1. However, in August the team signs Jacques Villeneuve as Damon Hill’s team-mate for ’96 and, at the end of the season, it moves to its current premises in Grove.
