2019 Work Experience and Taster Week

As part of the Williams’ Group on-going commitment to our emerging talent programmes we are proud to offer our successful Work Experience programme. The purpose of work experience is to encourage further study and careers in Maths, Science, Engineering, Design and Information Technology, Media and Marketing. Our aim is to bring Engineering and work related subjects to life, enthusing students about such subjects, and helping to equip them for their future careers, particularly in a precision engineering environment such as ours. Work Experience Opportunities Available Williams receives many applications from students who would like the opportunity to undertake work experience or student placements. Due to such high demand - along with limited availability due to our team size, resources and racing commitments - we are only able to accommodate a limited number of students each year. “Taster Week”, also known as “Five days in the life of Williams” can accommodate 10 students and is designed to provide an insight into the diverse range of skills and occupations required by the Company to produce a Formula One racing car. This programme is therefore designed to assist students in choosing the right career path, apprenticeship and/or future subject choices. Taster Week takes place in July each year (dates tbc once Race calendar finalised). Due to our car-build commitments, Work Experience is not available between October and April each year. Additionally, we are not able to accommodate Work Experience students for periods of longer than one-week.

Work Experience can be held in both the Composites department and the Model Shop. We do not offer any work experience or student placement opportunities on our Race/Support, Design Office or Marketing Teams.

Application Process: When short-listing Work Experience and Taster Week applications the Company generally expect students to be studying relevant subjects at school and to have achieved strong academic results including Maths, English, Science, Art, Design, Communications, Mechanical and Information Technology.

In addition to the above, active participation in programmes such as F1 in Schools or Formula Student is an advantage. Evidence of interest in leisure activities such as go-karting, restoring or working on cars, building working models of cars and planes is great to see.

The closing date for all Work Experience and Taster Week applications is Friday 4th January 2019. Shortlisting will take place between January 2019 and February 2019 and those students shortlisted will be invited to take part in a telephone interview or attend an interview and/or selection tests during this period. The outcome of all applications will be notified by the end of March 2019. This timeline takes into account our busy car-build and pre-season preparation period.

Would Work Experience or Taster Week suit me? If you’re interested in engineering and love subjects like science, technology, engineering and maths, then please do apply!

Successful candidates are:
- Passionate about engineering
- Enthusiastic, interested and eager to learn new things
- An interest in subjects such as maths, science, technology and engineering
- Hard-working and good at thinking on your feet
- Polite and helpful – you’ll be helping out so should try hard to make yourself a valuable member of the team
- Good listeners – during your placement there will be lots of new information to take in.

Travel and Accommodation:
The student must take sole responsibility for making suitable travel and accommodation arrangements. Health and Safety training on manual handling and fire safety will be provided on the student’s first day as part of the induction process. The student will also be protected under the company’s Employer Liability and Public Liability Insurance. Note: Due to the short-term nature of both Work Experience and Taster Week placements we are unable to accept applications from candidates who do not have entitlement to live or work in the United Kingdom and we can only accept applications via www.williamsf1.com/careers.

Closing Date: Friday 4th January 2019
