Williams is one of the world’s leading Formula 1 teams. It exists purely to race in the top echelon of motor racing, where it has been winning Grands Prix for more than three decades. The Williams name has been synonymous with top-level motorsport since the 1960s.
We are looking to recruit a Machinist to join our team. Working in the Machine Shop, the role involves operating machines that produce complex components through a diverse material range.
Would you like to play a vital role in a team which contributes to the race car components? Our department goal is to produce key parts in the most efficient, cost effective way whilst keeping lead-times to a minimum.
Candidates will have experience in machining high quality components, working collaboratively and individually to meet the demands set out by production. With a strong work ethic, continuous improvement will be important to you as these values will contribute to a successful team. Written and verbal communication skills are important attributes and will make valuable contributions to role. You will ensure that all relevant data regarding scheduling of work is kept up to date and accurate.
Skills you'll use every day:
The successful candidate will have a good level of knowledge around manufacturing technology relating to metallic components. Operationally, your milling experience will have seen you use DMG machining centres with Siemens controls, Matsuura machining centres with Fanuc controls and Hurco machining centres with Ultimax controls. Alternatively, your turning experience will have seen you use Hitachi and Hardinge lathes and Stama millturn.
Candidates should ideally possess a recognised apprenticeship or have gained relevant experience in a similar environment, take pride in their work and be capable of working with a minimum of supervision with attention to detail whilst displaying a ‘can do’ attitude. Good written and verbal communication skills will also be required, as liaising with other departments within Williams will be another key element to this position. A high degree of flexibility, self-motivation, team ethic and initiative are critical for success in this role as is the willingness to work extended hours when workloads require. An understanding of NC G-code programming in the milling role would be advantageous, as there will be the requirement to feed back to the programming department any positive changes you feel might be made.
For these roles we have a choice of three shifts available:
4 days on, 4 days off
Alternating early/late shift
