Atlassian Williams F1 Team added a further 117 laps to our testing tally on day two of the second official pre-season test in Bahrain, with Alex Albon completing a full day behind the wheel of the FW48.
With Carlos Sainz set to take over for the final day of running, this marked Alex’s last time in the car before the season-opening race weekend in Melbourne.
Alex took on both sessions in Sakhir, starting with a productive morning that saw him notch 71 laps. A best time of 1:35.130 saw him enter the lunch break sitting P4 on the timesheets.
He returned to the track for the afternoon and evening running, adding a further 46 tours of the Bahrain International Circuit to bring his total for the day to 117 laps – the equivalent of 633km.
Improving his benchmark to a 1:34.555 as conditions evolved, Alex ended the day P11 overall.
Across all five days of running in Bahrain so far, the team has now completed 649 laps, the second-highest total of any constructor, which equates to 3,512km of valuable pre-season data.
There is one more day of testing to come in Sakhir, with Carlos at the wheel for the full day as preparations continue ahead of the new campaign.
Paul Williams, Chief Trackside Engineer:
“It was another solid day of testing for the team, with Alex completing a total of 117 laps after a full day in the car. For the morning session, we continued to build on the setup foundations from the previous day with a combination of high fuel and low fuel running. “Over the lunch break we opted to make some bigger changes to the car, before Alex completed runs testing the full tyre compound range, allowing us to gather useful data ahead of the opening races. “Carlos will conclude the test programme tomorrow with a full day of running, as we continue to extract performance from the FW48 in preparation for Melbourne.”
