After some promising progress in FP3, our Qualifying session was overshadowed by a huge accident for Franco Colapinto in Q2 as the team finished P14 and P18.
Our Argentinian driver was showing good pace after finishing P9 in Q1, but made contact with the inside of Turn 15 in pursuit of a top ten shootout berth and sustained a significant impact in excess of 50G.
Our No.43 was taken to the medical centre for a check-up and will need to be evaluated again tomorrow before we know whether he will be clear to race. Franco’s health is all that matters and we are glad he is otherwise okay.
Alex, meanwhile, was unable to progress beyond Q1, with a 1:34.425 his best time of the session, and one that will place him in P18 tomorrow evening.
The crew will face a long night rebuilding Franco’s car for tomorrow’s Grand Prix, and everyone will be pulling out all the stops to give us the best chance of a positive result.
